Instruction

The relationship between median and mean values can change. We've illustrated some relationships in the histograms below:

MEDIAN = MEAN – The histogram is symmetric (both sides have the same number of equally distributed elements), so the mean (blue line) is in the center. The median (orange line) is also in the center of the histogram.

MEDIAN < MEAN – The histogram is skewed right, so the median (orange line) is situated on the left side of the mean (blue line).

MEDIAN > MEAN – The histogram is skewed left, so the median (orange line) is on the right side of the mean (blue line).
